This undercoat was easy to use; I applied it with a Hamilton Perfection Synthetic Paintbrush upon a previously painted alkyd glossed surface. The undercoat flowed out evenly leaving no noticeable brush marks and the coverage was excellent.
I took extra care when preparing the surfaces, rubbing the old gloss sheen down until it was flat (no shine) and washing down any greasy and dirty areas and allowing it to fully dry before applying the paint. I tested the surface adhesion by sanding the dried undercoat after 60 minutes, the paint had stuck firm and there was no flaking or paint film damage.
I was very impressed by this paint given that I was not a great fan of properties of waterborne undercoats in comparison to those of traditional solvent based undercoats.
Dulux Quick Dry Undercoat is designed to be used in combination with Dulux Quick Dry Gloss. However I chose to use a traditional Dulux solvent based gloss as the topcoat for I needed to thoroughly evaluate the undercoats properties and performance before I use it commercially. I was very pleased with the overall quality and performance of this undercoat and believe it to be an excellent product.
I have since used Dulux Quick Dry Gloss over the undercoat and I was very pleased with the end result. I can toughly recommend this waterborne undercoat for use with both traditional oil gloss and modern waterborne Dulux Quick Dry Gloss. Please see my review on this paint for more information.
