Zinsser B.I.N Stain Blocking Primer is a quick drying shellac based paint which is a suitable primer for many common surfaces, having excellent stain blocking properties it is ideal for resinous and knotted timbers as well as sealing painted surfaces prone to persistent surface staining. I personally find Zinsser BIN to be the most useful and indispensable primer available, because of its quickness in drying and versatility of uses.
Brushes can be cleaned and the paint thinned with Mentholated Spirits. Zinsser BIN is not the easiest paint to apply over large areas such as door surfaces due to its fast drying it can prove difficult to maintain a wet working edge. However when priming larger surfaces such as doors I prefer to first apply either Zinsser 123 or Zinsser 123 Plus and then coat any knotted or surface stained areas with BIN. I have often used Zinsser BIN as a quick drying undercoat for traditional oil gloss and satins, although BIN dry’s off-white, if undiluted a good quality white gloss will cover it.
